Macro work with Mini-DV is great fun - I get amazingly
sharp macro images using ordinary close-up lenses made
for 35mm cameras (with step-up rings). Simple close-up
lenses that produce so-so image quality on 35mm gear
produce fine images on video, and with the LONG tele
range available on camcorders, the magnification can
be quite high while providing large front spacing for
convenience. It is fun to follow a tiny bug along a leaf
or flower petal, and have it huge (and sharp!) on a TV!
The small size of these Mini-DV camcorders also helps
for getting into tight places. Try something moderate
in power, like a +1 diopter - zoomed out, even this
will give high magnification. Have fun!
