I compare various Sony imaging types at:

Three light levels are used (you can look up
Sony's lux ratings for these, and judge results in
the comparative frame-grabs). For me, "5 lux" (in
Sony terms...) gets me decent-quality video in
"normal-low" tungsten or "dim interior daylight"
room illumination; "7 lux" doesn't quite do this...
Unfortunately, the one-chip cameras begin to "poop
out" at light levels that are commonly used for
video, making the results mixed depending on local
room light levels. Shoot near a good lamp, and
you may be OK, but pan away, and you may get
near-B&W, "grainy" images...
