Yes, by necessity, alas...
I'm often in a very large room with lots of people,
and the "main" light is one candle per table (if I'm
lucky! ;-) I may be in this horrid location shooting
speeches, conversations, dancing, etc. for hours...
UGH!!! But it is what I get paid to do, and from the
footage that results, I must make reasonably
good-looking edited videos (and I do...;-). I (not
entirely jokingly) inform clients that "photography"
literally means "the recording of light", and if they
do not provide light (they keep it almost non-existent
in order to maintain the "atmosphere"...), well....
And, in the next week or so, I will be videoing four
slide-lectures - I must carefully and minimally light
the two lecturers so as not to wash out the slides
for the viewers, or render the slides relatively too
dark in the video, which leaves me using the lens
nearly wide-open, and with plenty of gain-up... Fun!
Ultimate low-light ability of mini-DV camcorders is
of interest to me! ;-)
