I have not seen a commercially available loupe for 35mm that I like -
they are either too low in power to tell you much (everything looks great with a good 4-6x loupe), or too poor optically at higher powers
to tell you much (everything looks terrible). A good magnifier is
very useful for separating the "almosts" from the "wows" when editing
slides (or negatives). It is also very useful for teaching you how
to improve the sharpness of your images by improving both your
technique and your equipment. The best magnifier I have found is a
cheap 10x fold-up chrome case magnifier designed for field examinations
of plants, etc. They are 2-3 dollars, and take a little practice to
use, but they are sharp.
