Hmmm...
I have not experienced any of the above with Premiere 5.1a
(been lucky??? ;-). I have done two-hour edits on the timeline
without permanent slow-downs (they can occur with
any length project - saving, shutting down, and reopening
Premiere solves this). Try saving after every change (hit
"CNTR-S" - this avoids most crashes), and setting under
File/Preferences/Auto-Save: "4" levels of undo, "4"
versions of the program, and "999" Maximum Files In
Archive (the last seems to help with longer projects...).
