Hi--

All of the 24mm f2.8 Nikkors benefit from the shade made for them, since they are somewhat sensitive to out-of-picture light source flare. It is
very mild, and can be stopped with a hand, but the shade is more convenient.
(BTW, I don't use a shade with the 20mm f2.8 - there is less of a problem,
and if the sun is just out of the image area, a finger extended to cover it suffices.) Also BTW, The multicoated 35mm f2 doesn't seem to be so bad
(I have been reluctant to embrace multicoating, but with a some lenses
maybe it does help.) The 24 is not a flary lens - but it can use a little aid from the shade (in SLE, I noted the shade only when it seemed to actually help [the 24, 35-105, and Tam 28-135 were clearly helped by the shade under some conditions], as opposed to theoretically help).

>Hi. In your SLE (yes, still good readin' ! ), you state that some of the 24/2.8s "need shade". I'm eyeing a MF 24/2.8 AIS, but of course, don't need a another 'flarer' like my 35/2 (I need to hide that lens, give away, do something!! as it starts to twitch - framing anything even close to against the light!.). Can you elaborate on "needs shade"?
