The camera has a built-in lens, so you would be trying to
add a lens to a lens (good only with a few lenses for macro
work, but little else...). The Canon XL-1 can be fitted with
Canon AF 35mm lenses, but so little of the image area is
used for video picture that sharpness probably suffers, and
it is good for tele video only - even a fisheye lens would
be a tele on the XL-1...;-) You can get front lens
converters in WA and tele, if need be (and for anything
describable as "wide angle", there is a need! ;-). These
vary in quality, and should be matched by trial to get the
best image quality with your particular lens model.
