Actually, most non-AI, non-meter-coupled Nikkors do not need the
AI tab on the F3 raised (or FE/FM/F2A/F2AS, which also have this
capability of raising the AI tab out of the way for mounting
non-AI meter-coupled lenses). This includes the 500mm and 1000mm
early mirrors, the 35mm f2.8 and 28mm f4 early PC lenses, "M"
rings, PB-4 bellows, etc. Generally only the non-AI lenses with
a rear aperture ring need to be accommodated.
