Additional RAM should make no difference in rendering
speed (assuming adequate RAM for basic program operation).
Rendering speed is determined by a combination of codec
used, CPU speed, and (as the original poster pointed out),
how much video "refiguring" is required. If all else
remains constant (HD speed is close to irrelevant),
installing a faster CPU (the speed increase percentage
should not be minor...) and avoiding rerendering are
the most likely to improve render times (though with
different Mini-DV codecs there can be very noticeable
differences in render times).
