I have performed wonders with it, also - it really is
VERY useful, with a little sound knowledge. As for the
original poster, the sound can be EQ'd with a bit of a
bump in the upper mid-range (and maybe the low end...),
to sound more impressive without actually being much
louder, and careful expansion of the peaks (using the
compressor/expander function) can be useful - but with
digital it is ESSENTIAL that you "clip" the peaks no
more than moderately (the slightly chopped-off peaks
from the pops can actually improve the effect of the
fireworks [but little else!!!], but if you "overdrive"
the sound too much, you will hear silence at the peaks
instead of more distortion with digital...;-).
