The maximum film speed is relevant only for TTL use...
Nikon gives the max as 1000 ASA for at least the earliest AF
bodies, but I find in practice that there is no limit (at least,
3200 works OK...;-). I would not worry about it - any AF Nikon
body will handle at least 1000 ASA with TTL flash - and that is
about the maximum film "true speed" you can get, anyway (you
can go higher if you don't concern yourself too much with normal
tonal range...;-).
