The above may be bad advice, since, as I understand it, in
record mode the cleaning tape would be in contact with the
spinning head regardless of whether it is recording or not.
Best to use "play" mode, if the above is true with D8
cameras... I also try to keep single passes limited to
5 seconds to minimize heating. As for the original posting,
I'm not sure this is relavant to D8 camcorders, but I have
noticed a big difference between Mini-DV and Hi-8 cameras
in their ability to hold tape in contact with the heads
during rough handling. I move cameras rapidly sometimes,
and Mini-DV rarely shows dropouts as a result, but my
Hi-8 cameras often did...
