Ah, I have been bitten by the video bug, also....
(talk about quality images...., NOT! - but the
appeal of motion-showing and good stereo sound
recorded by a small, fairly easy to use device
has been too great to resist...;-). The bugaboo
in video is editing, though - while hi-8 and S-VHS
original footage can look good, go one generation
down, and the marginally good becomes unacceptable
to those of us who are particular, alas). A camera
like the Canon ES-5000 is fairly versatile (though
not if you like wide-angle images, darn! [it's not
happy with w/a converters...]), and can get you
started, but if you have the money and a suitable
computer, I would consider the 3-chip Sony digital
camera (it has digital in/out connection, and soon,
suitable connection to computers for 1st-generation
quality editing). You might want to check out the
various rec.video.* groups...
