No TTL without F3 dedication, alas... (but other than
the Nikon SB-12/17/16A there are some other brands of
flashes that were equiped with the right shoe...).
BTW, some of Nikon's newer flashes have a very wide
range of selectable stops in auto mode, and except
for tele and macro use, these are almost as convenient
to use in auto as a TTL flash is (AS-4, AS-7, or
flash bracket [with PC cord] required for these).
