Unfortunately, the add-on "diffusers" do little but lose
flash power (unless a reflective surface is VERY close, and
unless you are VERY close to the subject...). Unless you can
enlarge the effective light source size considerably (by
reflection off surfaces much larger than the flash head,
or otherwise *really* enlarge the flash source size
[mini-softboxes don't do it, since most of the illumination
comes from a hot-spot just ahead of the flash], nothing is
gained by using these gadgets. If you are shooting close
to the subject, a simple medium-sized styrofoam cup put
over the top of the upturned flash head usefully loses
light when using fast films and wide apertures, and it can
also help in getting the light source above the lens.
