True speed is about 640 - wunnerful, huh? As with Tri-X and other
fast films, applying "push" development carefully can up the
speed a bit (with good shadow detail and fairly normal contrast,
but with some compromise in grain and sharpness characteristics).
Achieving the wild claims of 3200-12,000 speeds requires a
LARGE trade-off in image quality! BTW, I once "raced" Tri-X
against T-Max 3200, using D-76, Acufine, and water-bathed
Acufine, and guess what? It was hard to find much real difference
in quality or speed at equivalent exposures...;-). If very high
contrast, grainy negatives are your thing, the sky's the limit
with the ASA rating with most any fast film...! ;-)
Hope This Helps
