Hi-- I generally defeat this feature, since it gives a variable (unpredictable)
amount of fill, which is always too much (-2/3 stop to 0 stops compensation,
depending on whether the ambient light exposure is correct, or under [which
is unlikely to happen in the auto modes, so guess it defaults to the
inadequate -2/3 stop over-"fill"]). If you use an SB-24,5,6 flash, you can
defeat the auto-fill, and dial up a fixed ratio - as you can also do on the
N6006-6000 bodies (great feature that should be on ALL bodies!). If your
body doesn't have this feature, then one is stuck with auto fill, or setting
ratios with the flash in auto mode - a pain! David Ruether
