Actually, one can set TTL fill ratios with the F3 and F3-TTL flashes
(SB-12/17/16A + other brand flashes with F3 TTL foot) using the AS-7
shoe, or an F3 TTL remote cord. Set the ambient light ASA on the camera
selector ring, and set a higher (by the amount of fill difference wanted)
ASA on the separate shoe or cord end ASA ring. The hitch is that 400 ASA
is the top limit with the F3 TTL system, so if one wants a one-stop fill,
200 ASA is the top speed setable on the camera... (160 ASA for 1 1/3rd
stop, etc...). Also, if you want to keep the F3 ambient meter on while
the flash is on, cover the center of the three pins on the flash shoe -
BUT be aware that the camera shutter speed will no longer be limited to
the flash sync. range (so make sure you haven't selected a speed above
the sync. speed!), and the VF flash ready light will not operate.
Hope This Helps
