Since the poor fast zooms are big, heavy, and not very
cheap, I would choose alternatives like the Nikkor 24-85
f3.5-4.5, 24-120 f3.5-5.6, 28-105 f3.5-4.5. On the F100
these can be operated as if they were constant-aperture
lenses, and by f5.6, all are quite good. if the faster
lenses are soft at the widest two stops, they offer no
advantage over the slower zooms - but the slower zooms
are lighter, smaller, and cheaper... BTW, see:
