"Extended warranties" are notorious money-makers for
the sellers with other items (and I avoid them), but
I sometimes pay about $180 for the 5-year EW from a
reputable dealer/coverer, since almost any repair
is about $300 (Sony). As with all insurance, it is
unlikely you will need it, but with a loss, you need
it...!;-) It is a gamble... I have owned at least 11
Mini-DV camcorders, and have had only one ($300...)
repair needed - but I handle them carefully, and any
one camcorder sees relatively little use (so maybe
I should not buy warranties - though, as I think
about it, I have bought them only for the two VX-2000s,
which I intend to keep for several years, so, as I
ramble on with this narrative, I guess I made the
right choices with this, afterall...;-). Good
