Nikkors are evaluated (best that makes sense, anyway...)
at www.David-Ruether-Photography.com/slemn.html, but this will not
help you. Part of the problem, at least with the 2X
converters, is that matching with particular lenses is
important, and an otherwise excellent converter can be
so-so with a lens that does not match it well. Also, for
the cheaper converters particularly (and for all but the
expensive converters made for the BIG teles, in practice),
the lens must be stopped down some with even the best,
making the effective apertures VERY small at which
acceptable performance is first achieved. This makes
the cheaper 2X converters nearly useless for anything but
tripod or flash work - or for small-stop flash macro work,
for which they are generally excellent... If you stay with
the better 1.4X models, these can work well with many
lenses (I particularly like the TC14A Nikkor on my 16mm
fisheye...!;-).
