You are asking the program drive alone to provide program
control, preview files, raw video files, and swap-file
space, all possibly at once, from different locations on
the disk... This is VIDEO - we are lucky these systems work
at all with the required sustained high data rate from a few
drives, let alone one! But, even with this, if your files
are in good order, on a defragmented drive, you can
sometimes get away with having everything on one drive,
sometimes... (but not always, just sometimes...;-).

From what I've heard about the Maxtor controller, skip
it. Chances are you have enough IDE slots to add the
extra drive without it. If not, look elsewhere.
The IBM is good. I would set up a smaller drive
partitioned for programs and preview files + the 60 +
an additional large drive - having two video-source
drives is handy for faster copying and for cleaning
drives by file-transfers rather than by defragging
the video-source drives.
