Ummm, multicoated samples of the MF Nikkor 35mm f2
seem to do better at stops wider than about f4-5.6 than the
AF version (the MF is quite good wide open, short of the
corners at infinity-focus - with more "snap" at wide
stops than the AF...). As to the 28mm f2.8 D, now I
know Pop testers don't consider the edges/corners in
their evaluations...! ;-) The Nikkor AIS (MF) 28mm f2.8
runs rings around the AF-D at wide stops, and it also does
even when well stopped down - the edges/corners of the MF 28
are better at all stops than with the AF-D... (the AF non-D
is just plain horrid! ;-). Good edge/corner performance
is what separates the good from the adequate, for me,
regardless of how good the center sharpness is...
