Well, surprisingly, often there *is* no ill
*optical* effect... Also, Nikon US will
do major work on lenses for surprisingly
little money - and it can pay to buy a
"wreck" of an expensive Nikon item at a
very low price and have Nikon rebuild it
for a few hundred dollars...
