I think the Nikon teleconverter chart is only useful for checking
for physical fit and gross optical problems (which often don't show
up in practice, oddly...;-). It is useless for judging if there
is an optically good (sharp) match (some of the "OK" combinations
are very poor, or even silly...). In the case of the Nikkor
80-200mm f2.8 AF (all versions), the TC14/14B is excellent by one
stop down. The TC14C is a bit better at the widest stops at the
edges. I haven't tried the TC14A on it, but on other long lenses
there appears to be more than the expected one-stop light loss
with it. The TC200/1 produces poor results. The TC300/1 doesn't
fit this lens. The TC14E and TC20E can be modified to fit, and
the TC20E is good at the short and mid FL's, but disappointing
at the long end (though still better than the TC200/1 - I didn't
try the TC14E). The TC16A is OK, but not great on this lens. No
Nikkor TC will AF the lens, but the TC16A will itself provide
limited-range AF focus.
