Thanks, and thanks for the comments. I will try to get more
contact with the GL-1 to check out the sound more, but it
appeared (mixed in with the other camcorder sound when
I edited the similar scenes together - maybe I should make
tape copies available?;-) to be nasal-sounding, but with a
bottom hump added - and the overall level was low, with some
camera noise audible... The trouble with tests is that the
results sometimes don't agree with long-term experience.
I have used the VX-1000 for a few years now, and have not
encountered the putrid greens I saw in the test - the camera
does have a yellow-green color cast, but it has either been
pleasant, or invisible in the footage I've shot with it.
The same may prove true of the GL-1 sound. With so many
camcorders side-by-side, characteristics that may appear
relatively terrible can be almost invisible when the
references are taken away. BTW, I'm a recovering
still-camera lens nut (see "SUBJECTIVE Lens Evaluations
[Mostly Nikkors]" on my web page...) and a mostly-recovered
audiomaniac, so, remarkable as I think Mini-DV camcorders
are, it is not surprising that I do tend to see/hear the
faults...;-)
