You noticed this, too...? ;-)
Back a few years when all the TVs in a showroom looked
different, it usually was the RCA/GE that looked best to
me, too - but now, they all look nearly identical (at
least in our local Sears - either they are all well-matched
by the local staff, or the factory-standard set-ups are
more consistent than they were...). There are still sample
variations for convergence and distortion, but the color
and sharpness are close. I was lucky to find a particular
sample about 8 years ago (when mfgrs were still competing
over resolution) of a 27" with very near-perfect correction
for convergence and distortion and unusually good resolution
- and it only took about three months of shopping... When I
got it home, I took off the back and adjusted the color
to my liking (don't do this casually!!!), and I'm hoping it
lasts for another 8 years, since it looks better than
most current TVs - but I still enjoy looking at an old
20" RCA (even with horizontal pincushion distortion and
slight magenta bias). BTW, when I was looking for a 27",
there were several models of 20" that had "S" inputs and
the resolution to make that useful - I wish I had bought
one of those, too, since good 20"s are now hard to find...
Oh, BTW, RCA and GE TVs are Japanese, too...;-)
