If just the coating is damaged (no scratches), why worry? Even with a
filter on, you may never see a problem, but if you do, use the lens
without a filter... If the front element is scratched, you will see
"blobbies" or reduced brilliance when facing light sources - but
replacing the front element may be financially impractical, unless the
lens is expensive (I think Nikon replaces front elements on the big ED
teles for a bit over $200 - a bargain on a multi-kilobuck lens, but
not worthwhile on a $100 lens...).
