This sounds wrong, but you can check it easily. Use a 50-135mm
prime (not zoom, since these are commonly misaligned...), focus
carefully on a distant contrasty detailed subject in the middle of the
frame. See if the same focus holds in all four corners (or at least if
those are all the same) and at opposite sides of the frame. If not,
try another lens. If alignment is still off, the mirror alignment is
almost certainly off (and, BTW, so may be correct infinity-focus).
BTW, you can more easily check the visual mirror alignment by
looking in from the front at the mirror edge with the lens off and
the mirror locked up.

??? - Not sure what you mean, though the F3 HP eyepiece is much
larger than the one on the FM, and so can admit more light from the rear...
