Almost...
With the Sony cameras, turning off the digital
stabilizer does not change the angle of view, but,
as you said, using the still mode (--> with the
Memory Stick mode, but not with tape still mode),
the whole (image) area of the CCD is shown, giving
a wider view where any vignetting would be obvious...
