The "HAD" CCDs have their advantages, but you have found
their down side... As for checking for white pixels in the
CCD, put the lens cap on, connect to a TV, turn on the
camera in record mode, select "digital effect" (I think...),
"slow shutter" (no.1 = 1/30th; 2, 1/15th; 3, 1/8th; 4, 1/4
second). The lens cap forces the gain to +18db. You should
not see white pixels until "3", though you may not see them
until "4" (but they may remain as you go back to "3").
This performance is normal for Sony Mini-DV camcorders
of all types. If you see a pixel faintly at "2", I would
probably not get too excited about it; but if you see them
at 1/60th or 1/30th ("1"), I would return the camera...
