Extra length is often useful - when a long mic is attached
or a large WA converter or the NPF960 battery is used, the
camera length grows (and I use the large eyecup and
prefer not to raise the VF vertical more than necessary...).
You can always store the large air hand-syringe ahead of the
camera in the long slot, when the extra length isn't
needed...;-)
