I have been pleased by the lenses on most Sony
mini-DV camcorders I've tried (see the frame-grabs
from some on my web page - in the camcorder comparison
article under "I babble"). Be aware, though, that
on-screen image quality will generally be best with
3-chip camcorders, next-best with the better one-chip
camcorders, and worst with the digital-8's (which use
optics and chips designed for lower-resolution
consumer-level Hi-8). I have not tried the cheaper
Canon mini-DV camcorders, but I would, in the $1000
price range - Canon camcorder lenses can be good...
