Look for the differences in fine detail (not
contrast-enhanced effects), and also for evidence
of oversharpening (causes edges to be outlined
in white or black). The 900 is better in both
respects. Not shown: the edges in motion are
"quieter" with the 900 - a definite "plus".
Maximum Mini-DV resolution (one-direction)
is 540 lines - approached probably by none of
the camcorders, since it would require VERY high
resolution in parts of the system to do this.
The 900 image is sharper (as in higher-resolution)
than the GL-1 image, but one can be fooled by
the oversharpening and high contrast of the GL-1
image into thinking it is as sharp...
Also important is sound quality - the 900
sound is far from perfect, but it is better
than the GL-1 sound (see the reviews for more).
If you can afford $3-400 more than the GL-1,
get the VX2000 - its picture and sound are
noticeably better...
