Made sense to me - I have several camcorders and
no decks (more useful to have multiple special-purpose
camcorders, backups, and/or multi-camera shooting
capability than a deck that is mostly idle...).
When editing, the tape is run once off to the computer,
back on after editing (two copies, for safety) - no
big deal in terms of head/mechanism wear compared with
shooting...
