If you are using the flash in Auto mode, and if the flash has
enough power for the conditions (aperture selected, film speed,
distance to the reflective surface and then to the subject,
and reflectivity of the reflective surface) to give correct
exposure (given the limitations of the metering system), you
are OK, but most on-camera flashes do not have enough power
to do it at medium-small apertures with slower flims, unless
the (highly) reflective surface is close to the flash and
subject. (Using a wider aperture [set on camera and flash]
and fast film may be advisable when doing bounce flash.)
