I have used only the Canopus codec
(10-generations checked at:
http://www.David-Ruether-Photography.com/original_vs_10th-gen.htm )
and have seen the 5-generation tests at:
http://members.home.net/dgcom/MiniDV/DVcompressors.htm
(an eariler version indicated that QT4 was rather poor,
but the current results on this site appear to substitute
the much better QT5 results in the QT4 positions in the
charts...). I don't know if other codecs can be substituted
on a Mac (the render times are relatively quite long with
QT), but this site indicates that the MainConcept codec
would be a good alternative choice, if it is possible to
use it on a Mac... (it is about as fast and high-quality
as the Canopus, and about $50 to buy).
