Bellows are about the most awkward way to go - too much
minimum extension for moderate magnification, and the
auto-diaphragm is lost with most of them. Much more
useful, I think, are auto-tubes, achromatic close-up
lenses, and teleconverters - and combinations of these.
Results can be very sharp at ratios up to about 3X, and
when a TTL flash is added to the end of the lens,
hand-held operation, even at fairly high magnification,
can be practical. BTW, there are some insect photos
on my web page you may find interesting (under "Phun
Fotoz - photographs") - most taken with either the
90mm f2.5 Series I Vivitar + 1:1 adapter + 1.4X or 2X
converters; or the non-macro compact Nikkor 200mm f4 +
Sigma achromat + 1.4X or 2X converters and/or tubes.
