If you look at the beeps on an editor timeline set at the
single-frame level, you may see the audio as full-amplitude,
full-frame width, single-polarity blips. Best guess:
tape drop-out. Camcorders can often cover these during
analogue playback, but if you wish to remove them from
AVI files, try the "beepfix" at
http://www.slb.org/beepfix.html
