I would consider any but small focus shift (MF) near the
long end of the zoom range (only) of Sony camcorders as a
defect, and reason for exchange upon purchase. If too late
for that, it should have been taken care of under warranty.
I have purchased many Sony camcorders, and the only ones
with obvious focus shift were a VX1000 (slight), and a
"beater" TRV900 (obvious) - otherwise all (including two
VX2000s) showed either no detectable focus shift, or a
*very* slight shift just as maximum tele was approached.
(I recommend checking through all camera functions upon
purchase of both used and new gear, to detect such problems
early enough to do something about them cheaply...)
