I wouldn't, unless the extra lens length is important...
(the 1/3" "HAD" chips and general overall picture
quality will be hard to equal with lesser chips of
smaller size - but you never know until you see...;-)

Either remove the tape, switch into memory mode,
or intentionally shut down the camera and restart
it when you need it - this is a head/tape protection
mode, and should not be bypassed. It appears the
PD150, though, keeps the camera powered, but lifts
the tape - you don't keep the "instant-record"
ability, but you don't need to restart the camera,
either...
