If you are using "TTL" metering, the shutter speed changes with the
aperture change with ambient light - with flash, the "TTL" flash
metering will make the (on-camera) flash compensate. If you are using
studio lights, or the flash is in "auto" mode, you would need to
compensate the aperture - otherwise, with TTL, you would be
"chasing your tail" when compensating...;-)
