The 8008 instruction book does say this, but it may be to avoid getting alcohol on the plastic body. The 8008 VF optics (except the plastic
viewing screen) appear to be glass, and I have cleaned the eyepiece with
alcohol on a Q-Tip (I usually remove it from the camera before doing it).
