I would add: ADD A SERIES FUSE! Pigtail lead fuse holders for 1 1/4
inch fuses are cheap at Radio Shack. A 6 amp fast-blo fuse should
do it, and save you and the battery if you short it, or if there is
an accidental short in the wiring (can happen more easily than you
think - it happened to me, and wiring RCA jacks is not exactly
difficult work, and I could not figure out how the short occured,
but it did, and the fuse saved things).
