WARNING: LAWRENCE FOX Is a Dishonest Seller!
I recently bought a camcorder from Lawrence Fox (Toronto,
Canada, "Bowley" or "Caligari"
described as "without a scratch" and "fully functional",
with an explicit written agreement to accept a return
with refund if not as described or if with functional
problems. The camcorder looked OK, though it had a
couple of bent and displaced body panels - but the
transport would not advance or rewind tape or permit
"edit search" without jamming. I reported this within
a couple of hours of receipt to Lawrence Fox, who
refused to accept a return/refund and claimed it was
perfect when shipped. He repeatedly stated that my
only recourse was to collect insurance on it from the
US postal service. This would have been difficult since
the camera had been well packed (double-boxed), and the
external box was without a scratch (it had not even a
slightly dented corner) - and the damage could not have
been caused in the shipping, anyway. Further, even if
it were possible to collect (absurd to try, with no
external shipping damage of any kind evident), it was
not insured for the whole amount of the camcorder.
I advise anyone to avoid this seller - who did not
accurately describe what he sold me, who refused to
honor his advance agreement to refund if there was a
problem with it, and who would not budge from his
own unworkable solution...
