This has been hashed over endlessly, but the
bottom line is: for picture, between these two,
the VX2000/PD150 - and it costs FAR less when
equivalently set-up with good WA, portable
power, and good VF solutions; if you are going
for shoulder-mount and better manual controls,
consider the JVC 500 or Panasonic 200, which
cost about the same as (but are superior to)
a well-equipped XL1s... BTW, it appears that
even the GL2, TRV900, and TRV950 also have
pictures that are superior to that of the XL1s.
