This thread was about excessive edge-effect,
which is independent of the stop used...
But, actually, I was none too impressed with
the XL-1 lens at wide stops, either (try a
VX-1000/2000/PD150 with sharpness set at +3
or so [for a fairer comparison, with similar
edge-effect], see how they compare with the XL-1).
The Canon lens is good, but not wonderful...
BTW, you can see frame-grabs from both the
VX-1000 (without sharpness boost) and XL-1
from footage shot in the same set of lighting
