For $15, any 58mm-threaded WA converter is worth trying
unless the glass is damaged... A good converter for the
VX-2000 will show little degradation of the image quality
when attached (Canon WD-58 .7X [zoom-through], Raynox
HD6600-58 .66X [zooms 2/3rds toward tele], Sony VCL-ES06
[.5X in practice - zooms 1/2 way toward tele, but actually
only 2X from widest]). With the VX-2000 connected with an
"S" cable to a TV, see if holding the converter in front,
centered and parallel, with slightly-varying space between
the lens and the converter, helps - the non-zoom-through
types are often optimized by spacing them just the right
distance in front of the camcorder lens...
