I would look at the 18-35mm Nikkor and the 15-30mm
Sigma for the digital cameras... BTW, light, wide,
and surprisingly good: the old compact 20mm f3.5
Nikkor + empty Tiffen filter rim + Olympus .8X
WA converter (made for its digicams) - 16mm equivalent,
with good coverage for the digital CCDs, but not
being AF, it would not meter on the D100 (OK on
D1X, though...). Other alternatives: 16mm Nikkor
fisheye (very nice perspective, and I often use
the 16 on a 1.4X converter for a similar view on
full-frame 35mm), 8mm Sigma fisheye (again, not
AF...). Also BTW, you may want to consider the
Nikkor 24-120 - it is a bit slower than the 24-85,
but very good, and wider range... See reviews, at
www.David-Ruether-Photography.com/articles.html of the
18-35 and 24-120...
