Generally, yes (a 58->52mm step-down ring is needed).

Edmamarketing.com has good prices on Raynox converters,
other large video discounters can supply (cameraworld.com,
etc.).

The Canon .7X WD-58 ($180) is excellent throughout
the zoom range with both cameras; the Raynox HD6600
Pro .66X ($95) is low-distortion and excellent at the
short end, but not good at full tele - and it has a
tendency toward ghosting; the Sony VCL-ES06 .5X (though
it is rated .6X, about $65) is very good at the zoom short
end, but zooms only about 2X before losing focus...
